I heART Theater: Stateless

Stateless: A Hip-Hop Vaudeville Experience

WHO IS STATELESS?

STATELESS is a collaboration created by Dan Wolf and Tommy Shepherd. Directed by Ellen Sebastian Chang, STATELESS comes on the heels of the strong response to Wolf’s Angry Black White Boy.

WHAT IS STATELESS?

A play about two men that weaves German and Jewish history within a multi-media collage of hip-hop performance, beat-box vocal rhythms, vaudeville, comedy, and folk songs to bend time, uncovering the lost state of their new American identity. STATELESS is a play about performers and the power of collaboration. The show is a multi-media collage of hip-hop performance, vaudeville, magic tricks, comedy, history and folk songs that bend time.

The story begins when Dan finds a letter that becomes a portal to the past where his great grandfather and his brother are famous vaudevillians, singers and actors in turn-of-the-century Hamburg. Together with his best friend Tommy they follow the melody of Hamburg’s most famous song. His grandfather and family are the subject of a documentary film about Gebrueder Wolf, which became the inspiration for this production. STATELESS features music composed by One Ring Zero with the Gebrueder Wolf, Tommy Shepherd and Keith Pinto.
